Today Nokia introduced the 6600 Slide, a sleek looking handset that
combines high fashion with high technology. The exterior of the 6600
Slide makes good use of metal, as it is covered with glossy steel and
features an aluminum center button on the d-pad controller. Another
unusual feature is the cellphone's build-in accelerometer, which allows
users to do things like activate the time on the display or silence
inbound calls simply by tapping on the cellphone twice.
The main display on the 6600 Slide is a 2.2" QVGA resolution screen
that supports up to 16 million color shades. The built-in 3.2 megapixel
camera can capture large, VGA resolution video at 15 frames per second,
or capture lower res QVGA footage at a movie-like 30 frames per second.
Like most Nokia S40 powered devices, the 6600 Slide packs a built-in
music player and Bluetooth support. While there is only 18MB of
built-in storage available to users in the device, the 6600 Slide ships
with a 512MB microSD memory card and supports cards as large as 4GB in
size. And lastly, while this cellphone ships with Nokia Maps
pre-installed, it requires an external Bluetooth GPS in order to make
the most of it.
The 6600 Slide measures 93mm x 45mm x 14mm (3.7" x 1.8" x .6") in
size and weighs a respectable 110g (3.9oz). Nokia claims that the 6600
Slide's 1000mAh battery should be good for up to 4 hours of talk time
or 14.5 days of standby time when used on 850 or 2100MHz UMTS networks,
though we expect it to get more talk time when it is working on any of
its 4 GSM/EDGE frequency bands. Nokia expects the 6600 Slide to be
available for purchase in Q3 of this year for about 250EUR, before
taxes and any carrier subsidies.
