Samsung announced the first DVB-H compatible cellphone for
Europe that is available in a slider form factor. The new SGH-P960
shows TV programming on a bright 262k color, 2.6" DNIe display, and
sports a number of advanced features. One of the more novel mobile TV
related features found on the P960 is its DVR-like time shifting
function that will pause live television programming when a call comes
in so that users can avoid missing their favorite shows. The TV viewer
app on the P960 also supports picture in picture viewing and an
on-screen electronic service guide.
More conventional features found on the SGH-P960 include a music
player and FM radio with RDS capability, a 3 megapixel camera with LED
flash, and a brushed metal body. Audio output from the SGH-P960 is
enhanced thanks to Bang & Olufsen's ICEPower audio processing
system for full sounding audio from songs and TV programs alike. The
P960 has 90MB of internal storage available for media and apps, and can
accept microSD memory cards for additional storage space.
Samsung's new P960 for Europe measures 102mm x 53mm x 16.7mm (4.0" x
2.1" x .7") in size and sports a 1200mAh battery that Samsung claims
should be good for up to 5 hours of television watching. In terms of
connectivity, the P960 works on 900, 1800, and 1900MHz GSM/EDGE
networks as well as 2100MHz 3.6Mbps UMTS/HSDPA networks, while short
term wireless connections are handled by the P960's Bluetooth 2.0
system.
